Summit parts list for 496 HO , forged pistons,ss roller rockers, cometic gaskets,ss
Hi !
I did a lot of work figuring out what parts to use in the 496 HO and where to get them from, so I want to share it with you guys maybe some in the same situation will save some work.
I almost got all parts from Summit , the rest I ordered from www.mercruiserparts.com.
Here is my Summit list, some of the parts nr are difficult to find in Summit catalogs or don't exist there.
I wanted to do a quality job on the engine and have chosen affordable quality parts like forged pistons and Hastings top of the line SS nitrided Ceramic PVD rings, ss roller rockers same ratio as OEM.
The mm to inch studs for roller rockers needed a 2-3mm shim under to work. Fits under the OEM valve covers.
I have to brag about Summit they sent parts faster than promised , supplied me with special nr for the special rings, and when I discovered only part wrong was 2 same side Cometic ss multilayer headgaskets they sent a new one all the way to Norway free of charge...Amazing ...Thanks Summit. The engine has now run a season with no problems. The rings need to be filed to fit.The bearings on crank and camshaft and block buttons was supplied from the local machinist .

I needed to change camshaft and got that from www.mercruiserparts.com the OEM
same with valve springs , impossible to find any aftermarket with right dimensions in each end of spring.
The "hot" camshafts for cars are just to much off for using the OEM calibration in my opinion.

Cam - Yeah, you really cant beat the Raylar cams. I spoke to Bob personally and he will defer you to Raylar. They put a lot of work into them in partnership with Rher Morrison. I have all of the Raylar stuff and they even have a few things that pull even more power now from what I understand...
