Default Need professional input on these two boats , and the sellers .

I'm new here and yes I did take the time to read a few threads . I'm looking to purchase one of the following .
2009 Fountain 42 Lightning twin 1075 SCI - 0 hrs on motors
Seller is Pier 57
2008 Outerlimits 46 Limited twin 1075 SCI-84 hrs on motors
Seller is Performance boat center
The Outerlimits is more expensive , but I imagine thats because it's a bigger boat .
The boat will be running the waters of OC Md. and the Chesapeake bay .
What I am looking for is some input as to which is better and why ?
Approximate speeds , realistic ! Cruise speeds ? Full boost ?
Characteristics in rough water handling and in flat water .
We will say rough water is 3-4 feet .
Thanks for your time , much appreciated .
Bill

Let's first assume you made a typo when you said Formula 42 Lightning. Either boat will handle the conditions you mentioned well. The OL will be a bit more comfy because of the size, but the 42 Fountain is one of the best riding boats made, so can't go wrong there either. The 1075's and #6 drives are both very costly to maintain.

The Fountain is priced where it is because of the engines and the custom graphics; that boat will run in the 130 mph range, I believe. Unless that's what you're after, you could get a 42 with 700's, that will run 100+ all day long and save yourself a LOT of dough both on the initial cost of the boat and the maintenance.

The Outer Limits boat is a bigger, heavier boat; apples and oranges I think. I can't comment on speeds; I have no seat time in an OL. But from what I've seen of it, it's stunning. I've been to their factory; they are a first class operation and make awesome boats.

Between these two, assuming the price difference is not a consideration and assuming both boats are comparable as far as condition, I'd go for the Outer Limits..

I'd be comfortable buying from either Pier57 or PBC..

Yes it was a typo , locked in smartphone isnt so smart . So what is the issues with the 1075 SCI ? Why and what is costly . Performance boat center also has a 2008 42 lightning with twin 700s . Just some insight i am a gearhead and have several street racecars and drag cars . I do all my own tuning and datalogging . Wrenching and fabrication . I am by no means stating i know everything . But i am sure i can figure things out and have access to others if i cant . I want to have fun and enjoy the boat , i like the speed factor if i need it , but its not a necessity ! Id rather be on the water then waiting and spending money on parts .
What i have read is that they need to be freshened up every 300 hours , is that true or false ? Is the longevity better on the 700s ? Like i said i am doing some research now before i pull the trigger on anything ! If this was a car we wouldnt be having this conversation . But what i have learned from cars and boards/forums . There is indeed some good quality info out there . As well as bad !

1075's wont last close to 300 hours without a refresh. Figure pulleys every 40 hours and a full rebuilds every 125-150 hours.
