Looking for 3M Hookit 6" wet sanding disc. Which one? I can determine which ones will work with water. I need 80o Grit. Thanks.

i just buy Nortons regular da hookit stuff and use it wet. Make sure you buy the half inch interrface pad. Grits above 400 dont work well without it. I dont think they have specific wet da paper, at least i havnt seen any, the grit and glue is usually plenty waterproof to handle it (for Norton anyway, 3M gold is ok but does not last in water) About the worst that happens is the backing will start to separate from the sandpaper but by this time the grit is pretty worn.


I use Norton everything anymore, 3M just got to over priced.

302 LS Formula 1981. Maroon original finish. I really do not want to paint it;. It shines up ok but I though wet sanding it and buffing would make it pretty.

yep, certainly worth it you'd be surprised what can be done. Not always, but worth a shot. I like Nortons Champagne speed grip (their version of hookit) follow that up with Mirkas Abralon 1000 and 2000. All used wet and with the intermediate pad.

3m makes a specific wet paper but expensive as heck. I use norton black ice it's half the price and works great.

i also use the mirka da paper wet and holds up real good..

i like the mikra paper as well. but what are you using for wet sanding with a DA? we hand wet sand everything no matter how large because in the past we have gotten hook marks in the paint trying to wet sand with a DA.

They make 2 types of DA's, aggressive 3/16 in. offset orbit or a finishing 3/32 in. offset orbit. You use the 3/32 DA wet sanding gel coat before polishing, or for light finish sanding before paint. And I now only use the Fountain of Youth polish/wax products after Glass Daves thread. They work the best for gel coat, it was the best money I spent on polish/wax.

I just bought a Hutchins 3/32 da for wet sanding gel.
I also bought specific hook and loop "wet" discs. They have a plastic film backing instead of paper backing.

ive got a Dynabrade 3/32 I bought in 92 that still works like the day I bought it and I use it almost exclusively for wet sanding. Do all my dry sanding with a 3/16 orbit electric Porter Cable that I love, the things workhorse. With the Norton champagne I really dont have the need to buy wet specific paper, the stuffs reasonably priced and last as long as I need it to. I hardly do any hand wet sanding unless its detailing edges or spot work.

VC I also have a Hutchins I bought in the late eighties that still works like the day I got it, smoothest da out there.
