Well my fellow Baja junkies, I took delivery on the new 29 today.
Congel's main man (Rick) was right on time. When he pulled in with the boat I liked it. I liked it alot... Before I put it in the water I switched the 4 blade 26 p's to a set of Labbed 25's. I backed it in and let the 496's warm up for about 5-10 min's. When I jumped in the boat the first queston I had was "how do I turn off the Captians Call?" Rick said that it was off. WHAT!!! My 454 with stock manifolds were ten times louder than this thing. When I buy a "hot shot" boat I want it to sound like a God damn hot shot boat! Well anyway I headed out with the GPS in hand. The boat ran 71.4 headed into wind with relitivly calm water. The further North I went up the lake, the choppier it got. I headed back, with the wind to my back and a much better chop, and the GPS read 73.2 mph. I didn't think that was terribly bad for a boat with less than 1 hr. use. I was told that as the motors lossen a bit I could see a little more. I also have to get used to the different handling characteristics of the boat. My 98' 29 didn't have large KPlains or the Latham external steering. The proper operation of the tabs alone could really increase the speed.
While I was docking the boat about 5 people made a few positive comments about the paint scheme (raptor-red,yellow,black). I like it when they do that..... The transom looks kick ass with all the chrome. I will snap few pics and try to post them on Tues. Good night all....
P.s. Does anyone know if the Captians call exhaust noise destroyer reduces H.P? It just seems a little bit strange that they have 4" risers run into Captians call with a 1.5" final exit hole.

First thing you have to do is ditch the Quick and Quiet exhaust.
Quick and Quiet - bad
Fast and Loud - good
Where are you going to keep the boat? - on a trailer I hope. I also love the look of all the stainless on the transom. When I get the boat back in the driveway after an outing, that's the first stuff I wash in order to keep it from rusting. I see a lot of "new" boats on dealer lots that already have rusting transom stainless. It's a ***** to clean everytime but I think it's worth it.

Forgot to ask how it did with the 25's. According to Liquid, the X was raised on 2002's. If so, I couldn't imagine being able to get on plane with 25's. I think you should keep the 25's on at all cost. You would certainly loose 3-4 mph going with 26's (I did).
Loosing 3-4 would put you right back where you were with the 1998 with 7.4's.
I plan on going to the local dealer and measuring the X on a 2002 that he has to see if it's been raised.

Very happy for you. The boat sounds like a nice set up. A friend of mine just bought a 25 Outlaw with the same colors and it does look great.
Since we have had the 36 I cannot count the positive comments we have received. It is unbelievable how much attention the Outlaws attract.
We did an ICW run from Murrells Inlet to Charleston last Friday for a long weekend. Saturday out in the harbor we ran into a guy with a new 29. The water was very rough and I was impressed with out nice the 29 looked and handled the conditions. There is nothing as pretty as a true V with the bow up cutting through those waves.
I am with you on the mufflers. I do not know if they hurt performance, but the sound is just not there. I was looking at mine just last night and there is a nut in there on a bolt? I was wondering if something could be removed or cut out. They definately have to go. Let me know what you find out regarding this. My dealer is of no help at all in this area.
Enjoy the boat and be safe.

Need,
Congratulations! Beautiful boat aren't they. I too bought my 2002 29 from Congel. I would love to see pictures of yours. I have pictures but I don't know how to post them here. I could email them to someone who does.
Baja Boss, Need -
Those dome caps on the exhaust tips are held on by 4 little rivets. Jim as Corsa told me to drill the rivets out they fall right off. (it took 2 minutes for all four). It changed the tone a little but not enough. I asked about taking the insides of the tips apart (the nut) and he said don't bother. I bought four unbaffled tips ($400) and the boat sounds great! Keep the quick and quiet then you have the best of both worlds, quiet when necessary and nasty when you want to play!

I'm confused by your comment. Quick and Quiet refers to the baffled tips.

I was under the assumption that part of the mechanics of the Captains call were in the tips. How did you remove the tips. What tips did you decide to use? How was the install? Thanks for any info.

Thanks Evil,
You posted this before on the exhaust tips, I just forgot. I plan to drill out the ones I have tonight and will probably change the tips over the winter months.
I have the 500's with the headers, and it is a REAL drag not hearing those headers sing at around 3 grand.
thanks
