Default Gas Tank

I have a 1993 Formula 31pc. After I put the boat on stands and was winterizing it I realized the Port gas tank developed a small leak. I then had to borrow a hand pump and drain all of the fuel from the tank. My question is, when I pull the tank this spring will it be able to be welded? Or should I just buy a whole new tank? Thanks for the advise in advance.

It depends on what kind of shape it's in when you get it out. If it's corroded, scrap it.

I pulled the tank on my old Chaparral due to leakage.
Discovered a loose screw was under the tank when it was installed at the factory. After abt 14 years it finally rubbed a hole in the tank.Other than that the tank was still in excellent condition.

Hardest part was finding a welder that would weld a fuel tank. Finally found one locally.

Had to flush the the tank with water multiple times then let it sit out in the Texas sun for a couple of days. Welder set-up a N2 purge in case there were any fumes still present.
He said the alum was very high grade and welded very easily. Cost me $75.

generally though, if it leaks one spot, it is about to leak everywhere...
