wiring fuel level sender
I tried to be a cheap a$$ and try and fix my fuel sender, lost my float off the old one. Got one suggestion, thanks, but couldn't find anything. Now I am looking at the gaffrig sender, looks pretty trick, but it has three posts labeled: send, pos, and neg. Mine has only two posts. No techs available @ Gaffrig to answer question and would like to order sap. Will this one work without stringing another wire.

Do you have a Gaffrig gauge?
If not, I'm not sure that sender will work. The Gaffrig stuff is adjustable, and uses an active sending unit.
A regular fuel sender is nothing more than a resistor and a float. It's ohm range needs to sync with the brand of gauge, and it has 2 posts- a ground and the sender.
When I replaced mine, I used a universal sender from a local marine shop. Just make sure that the bolt pattern matches, then you can cut it to match the depth of the tank. Also, make sure you connect a good ground.
I think mine was around $10.

That sender should work with any gauge.
The neg- goes to ground (or the stock black wire from the original sender)
Send-Goes to sender(should be the pink wire on the stock setup)
Pos-Goes to power(you can wire it to switched 12v when boat is running. )

P.S. When adjusting the sender for full/empty make sure you have thank full/empty where you want it.
And cut the sending unit to the correct size the way they say to in the instructions

I installed the Gaffrig senders. They do require one additional wire each. They work well and require calibration before ( empty setting ) and after ( full setting ) installation. Calibration is easy and straightforward. A very small phillips screwdriver ( jewelers type ) works well. After calibration, put fingernail polish back on the set screws or they will drift. The directions are good. Also, there are no moving parts to break or foul.
You will also have to get extra long screws for mounting. If you have to cut the length for your tank, a tubing cutter is required.
They do not eliminate needle bounce. I believe they are more accurate than the old float type.
