Default Removing fuel rail/injectors on 496 MAG

Thinking at 10 years and 400 hours it might be a good idea to send my injectors off for a cleaning and flow testing. Would also give me an opportunity to check the conditon of the inside of the fuel rail. I've done a bit of searching but came up empty handed on do's/dont's of removing the rail and the injectors. I don't have access to the boat at this time, so I have to go off memory here. Do I need a tool to remove the fuel line that feeds the rail? Is there a return line as well? Unhook the harness from the injectors, pull the rail off the injectors in one piece? Pull clips that hold injectors in place and pull out injectors? Looking for input from those that have done this before. TIA!

all you need is a quick fuel line disconnect tool (if you dont have one you could get one at sears),disconnect the harness, remove the 4 rail retaining bolts and gently pull up, make sure the lower injector orings came out with the injectors and did not get stuck in the plenum, done.

Thanks, Tom. Pretty sure I have the tool from back when I had to change fuel filters on some GM products I used to own (assuming it is the same tool). Hope the back is all healed up so you can get some time in on the water this season.

It most likely is the same tool. If not they are about $8.00 at any auto parts store. I have had my intake off on my 496, and that was the only special tool needed, aside from a torx bit to remove the cover.

We had our injectors from our 496 Mag HO cleaned and serviced by Marren Fuel Injection (injector.com) every race season.

There are no worries; removing the rails and injectors. Just quite alot of hardware and brackets to get it all off. With new o-rings and some lube on them it will be easy.
