Default Does anybody on this board know anything about para planes(powered parachutes)?

I know that this is totaly unrelated to boating but last night a relative called me with this wild idea of him and I buying a para plane. he has one now but he wants a two seater, they seem like they would be a cool toy but I am not sure about the safety factor. Do any of you guys have any experience with theese things?

Two years ago while I was in Sturgis they had them across from the Full Throttle Saloon that you could rent. I heard that a guy and his wife wrecked one eariler in the week and the Wife was killed.
Point being..... Somebody thought that they were safe enough to rent out to anyone. So I guess in under the right conditions and with a safe and well trained person they could be alright!?!? But I don't think I'll be getting one any time here real soon.

Maybe back when I was single and didn't have a baby on the way!

I know what you mean, Funhome.
A couple weeks ago I was at the beach around dusk and saw a guy flying one around. 10 years ago I would have been trying to figure out where to get one. Now, with the baby, I watched him and thought "No way in hell would I fly that thing."
Seriously, though - I watched him for about a half hour, and the entire time I was waiting for him to crash. He looked like he would at any second.
