Looking at a formula 353 with this power. Any certain kind of maintenance due with these. They have 150 hours. CMI headers are original. Any info is great. Motors are original to boat. At Trenton marine they say they sold it new thanks

These are good motors. Did not come with cometic head gaskets but if some one did that to the motors, that is a good thing. If the blower has a way to check the oil make sure they always have oil. ( I think they have the b&m blower but not sure) Some of the 575's had bearings go out in the blowers and the rotors hit each other. Also Avoid long periods of WOT. The sevice manual say's 2 minutes. That's a stretch because the heads get hot and the the seats can fall out. The short block is better than a zz502 crate motor. Because ot the H beam rods. They have a forged steel crank and Forged piston's And a standard hydralic lifter cam. ( that's why you rev it up on start up so that some oil splashes on the cam.) Also some of them had a recall on the thermostat housing and those should be done especially if you go to salt water. Great engine.

Headers aren't a problem on these.
Mine ran up to 388 hrs berfore needing head gaskets, change the oil in the front and back of the superchargers and they're about the same as any other
HP engine.
They do require 91 octane and the factory tune on them is a bit rich to say the least.

The early models (such as this one) also have the better weiand dual oil bath blowers, the later b and m blowers had rear bearing issues.
The is an upgraded blower snout seal from dpme, works if you are losing oil out of the blower. Merc only ran a single seal, theirs is dual.
Engines would love at least an ecu tune
they are beyond rich. Mark boos at precision marine has a tune for these engines in stock form that works well.
If it was salt water use, pull hoses and check thermo housing and intake for rot. They rot easy and are expensive and hard to find replacements. Thermo housing only is $900.
The cmi headers have no issues, as stated above.
HG replacement is a good idea if not done, some will arc cut the block when the head gaskets do go. I have seen this 3 times on the 575sci.
If you want to really wake it up. Full roller conversion, 3.5 pulley, ecu tune, and 120 stat adds at least 125hp to that engine, it's really conservative at 575hp.
The comment about not holding wot for sustained time. I ran mine in stock for on two 20 min legs wot with no issues. It was in the fall, but the engines never even thought about getting warm. It stock trim that engine is extremely safe

Got a pair of them in my Cigarette. They were gone through with flat top pistons, hyd roller cams similar to the 525 EFI. Mine were 2002 models with the Weiand blowers. My blowers had been rebuilt a 190 hrs and replaced at 290. I replaced mine with The Blower Shop's billet 575 replacement and Whipple intercoolers. As for stock blowers,Weiand and B&M not impressed, typical Merc expensive junk. They use single row bearings and helical cut gears that are not heat treated. As things wear, the rotors get closer together. Throw in a smaller pulley and generate more heat, the rotors will start bumping causing 'Rotor Burn'.. Cost of the TBS blowers is not too bad @ 3300 each. I sold my used stock blowers on ebay for $2500. As mentioned above, head gaskets can be a problem. Cometics are the way to go.
