Customer just brought me a Bravo Transom Assy to Rebuild and Repaint. After Soda Blasting , I discover the seal bore below the Lower Swivel Shaft Bushing is completely Corroded away.
Has anyone repaired this problem before? I could weld it up ,but there is no room to get in and machine the bore back to size. I thought about making a tool , with an old swivel shaft and a long shaft through the
lower swivel pin bores to rebore. But it would be a real ***** to keep the bore ID accurate enough to hold the seal. Thought about Epoxy? But I hate to resort to that . Help me if you can!
Thanks Dwayne

He repairs gimble rings and bellhousings, however I doubt what you are describing can be fixed, or furthermore "should be" fixed. Sounds like its time for a new gimble housing. $400-500 used on flea bay.

Just the seal bore? You could rebore it very easy just by making a custom c-bore out of a drill, (like a c-bore bit used for socket head cap screws)and then make a sleeve to press in. That'd be a way to repair it w/o welding so you would still have the bushing bore for location

They are just about not worth rebuiling anymore. If you need a new gimbal ring, swivel shaft, bellows, bearings, bushings, seals, paint, trim senders, and labor its cheaper to buy a new complete one. Ive been selling them for $1850.

Fountain, that's what I was considering , thought about using lower pin bores as a pilot, and an old swivel shaft as the tool holder. Bore a hole through the swivel shaft ,and put a tool bit through it to bore the ID. My Bridgeport 90* head wont go in the gap. I could set my Fadal up to do this , if there is any interest in this kind of repair.

I agree with jray1010...If you need just a gimbal ring and shaft and add labor .you will exceed the price of a new assembly. This doesn't even take into consideration the other pieces you WILL need. Bellows ,senders, shift cable,,,etc. Now if you are doing all the work and have or don't need some of the major parts ,maybe it makes sense for you to repair .
