I guess my main question is whats your opinion on the transmission is it an easy fix or a big problem? Is there anything else that would make the truck unreliable any other major red flags ?

Swamps injectors and the ts chip are signs it's a younger guy that beat the crap out of it. Look for a stock one if you can. There getting tough to find but for 10k you should be able to find a decent one without trans issues.

Early 1999 or 1999.5 (same as MY2000),,,
,,,is the biggest question.

MY2000 was the strongest 7.3L engine with forged rods. Figure the worst is a $3K rebuild on the transmission.
It sounds like an OK deal, as long as it is the later model 1999.

Early 99's had the better compressor wheel in the turbo though, more noise less chatter. Same forged rods until 01 weren't they?
