Prop Direction and Drive Direction

On my last post Prop Direction thanks for all your replies but here's another question . By changing the shifter cables so my props turn out then my drives are turning the opposite also. Another words,
the starboard drive was going counterclockwise and the port drive was going clockwise. Now its going to be reversed. Could this change cause a potential problem with the clutch, gears, bearing cap since the drives have been turning a certain way for a long period of time and now with this change everything is going to go.reverse..?

Bravo drives?

If so, no issues running forward or reverse; they are identical.
However, if the teeth are overly worn, putting stress on them in the opposite direction could potentially accentuate their brittleness and cause a failure.

Yes bravo drives. That's what i am worried about. My drives are in great condition. I have been using Amsoil Marine drive lube in them for over 5 years now and when I change the oil.. Its clear with no metal parts on the magnets. I was also thinking about swapping the drives but i realized it would be much more involved with the steering caps etc. I'm sure it will be fine for a quick test.

Has there ever been a proven failure do to swapping the rotation, and not an acceptable failure do to design such as the left hand drive and the top cap upward force? Maybe you can look at it you are doubling your drives life since the gear contact is now on the new fresh side of the tooth? seems like the highest risk would be the prop shaft now twisting in the opposite direction, in that case, may be best to keep the drive always the same rotation? I see both sides of this debate.
Or you could just run the boat and not think so hard.

My drives have spent 1/2 their life one direction, and the other 1/2 the other direction. Both still good

Good point.. I'm going to try it anyway. Trying to see how the boat will respond with the props turning out. They are turning in now and parking is a real pain..........

I gave you my findings on your other thread. Mine are staying out for that very reason.Take a close look at your prop shafts splines for any hint of twist. If all good, I see no risk to swap. Otherwise might be best to keep them as is? Be interesting to hear your results. May have different opinion since we are talking steps/no steps and 32 vs 35. And not sure if the 35 is a deeper Vee than my 32

Actually my 35 is like a 32 and the 32 is like a 29 in the water..Fountains have that unique nose 3 ft of nothing in the water. I won't know what happens until 1.5 months from now. Still a bit cold here, but i'll let you know and also post my findings here. Thanx

I just swapped my props and nothing bad happen to my drives , the boat went a little slower and it was easier to dock in the wind , then i changed the controls so they were not backwards and i left them like that.

A friend of my changed the props without changing the shifters at first to try it..Going out of the marina was fine coming back in he totally forgot LOL and when he put the boat in reverse it went forward and he crashed into the dock I guess it could be confusing. I think i'll just swap the 2 shift cables..
