Default Tough gear shifter on my Bravo I any remedies for this

My gear shifter is getting hung up in reverse it still engages but I really have to pull on it. I went through the cables on the engine and greased them but it didn't seem to help. Last season I didn't have any problems. Is this an early sign of drive failure I am running a 500 EFI through a stock Bravo I. It goes into forward much easier and there are no noises or clunks anywhere. Any help is appreciated!

The cables are not meant to be greased.

Disconnect the shifter cable at the engine and see if its hard to move the shifter. If so its that cable, but I doubt its the problem.

Usually the lower shift cable goes bad first. Its possibly the lower shift cable and if not, it is the shift linkage and detent mechanism in the drive.
