Default Cruiser to performance boat first impressions.....

OK, I have about 4 hours run time on my new to me Donzi 26 ZX. More than half is idle time and I have not exceeded 4,000rpm yet. Coming from a 26ft cruiser, my first impression is how much better the Donzi rides in a little chop? Both boats are the same size but the Donzi really slices through the water much more smoothly. It doesn't pound at all like the cruiser in 3 footers....... The first time I came out of my channel and hit the throttle in the 3 footers I thought I was going to get slammed once I gotup to speed but I was shocked at how gently the hull came back in the water with no pounding at all..... Is this partly due to the twin step design? Overall, I really like how the boat handles and the extra speed is awesome! I can stay on plane at 2,500rpm and slow cruise at 30mph at 2,700rpm...... 40mph comes at 3,200 and 50mph at 3,700.......I have not tuned my carb yet with my wideband so I am not really exceeding half throttle but my tune is on the fat side now. I really like the idea of being able to cruise at 45-50mph as I run over to St. Pete and Clearwater quite a bit and the time saved and better ride is well worth it.

So far with my corsa silent choice I have not seen any reversion at all. I do keep it quiet in my canals as I have about 15minutes at idle power to my dock. I have no mufflers on this 502 and it sounds mean when you get on the throttle! At around 3,500rpm it really smooths out and the sounds changes to a deep, angry growl! I swear it sounds like I have twin motors back there! I overnighted a few times in the 10 years I owned my cruiser and having a large cabin is just not that important to me. My Donzi has a plumbed in potty with holding tank and a transom shower so it is not out of the question for an occasional overnight trip. My cruiser is going up for sale and I am officially a performance boater! TBF

I have already been on a 33Avanti with twin 525's and it was incredible! I lost my job as an Airline Pilot and I am starting over at the bottom again so once I get some extra money I am going to upgrade for sure! I am like a kid in the candy store right now! I need to find some eye candy to hang on my sunpad!!

3 rooker is such a great spot! I have a buddy that lives in Clearwater with a 23ZF center console and I have been there many times..... It would just take too long at 2 hours each way from my house in Apollo Beach cruising at 30mph in my wellcraft....... I figure an hour 10 minutes with a 50mph cruise in the Donzi! I mostly go to beer can island in Tampa Bay as it is only a couple miles away and much easier on the gas bill!

It's not the steps that make it slice through the waves, it's the 24* deadrise! The ZX series is a nice boat and some have been set up to run over 100 mph. The steps make it go faster but also make turns quirky so be careful, as you have been.

Never been there but heard it's nice. We drop in over at Gwndy buy Hula Bay sometimes. I will have to cruise over that way next time.

Congrats on the boat brother.
