Plastic raw water pump body
#1
I found my water leak. My raw water pump body is split wide open. Has anyone else found these split or cracked. I replaced the impeller at the begining of the season and it looked great. I used the proper torque and everything. Just woundering if I should simply replace it with a new plastic one or get an all new brass pump assy.
Thanks

The brass are very good, but the plastic is also ok. The key to not breaking them is to tighten them like a car tire and do it slowly. The torque on them is very low like in in/ft pounds.
Good luck

My plastic pump bodies are both pitted. The pits are in the body around the in/out ports. Impellers seem to last a normal amount of time (a couple of 25-hour seasons).
I do plan to go to the bronze body pumps at Procharger time.

SeaDated,
I have a plastic body that you can have if you want it, it is 1 year old (used 1 season). I later had a pump problem and replaced the whole thing with the bronze assembly.

Just split mine top and bottom last week. I could not figure why it would break, so I assumed I over tightened. As stupid as this sounds, I think I overtightened the hoses, atleast that would make the most sense from where the craks were, and recently I had the hoses off to make room for some other work I was doing. I replaced it with the plastic housing, becuase this was probably my error, not the part. WHile you are in there, spend the extra $25 and put a new impellar in as well. My .02
