Best place/ price for rebuild kit for Velvet drive transmissions
#1
I need to rebuild the Velvet drive transmissions in my boat this year and was wondering who has the best prices on a kit. Both transmissions worked fine, but the starboad one would spin really fast in neutral when the boat was out of the water (probably warped clutches I'm hoping) Im not putting crazy power into them, just about 700 HP from twin turbo 454's

Hale Marine seems to have good prices on all the B/W stuff.
A buddy of mine used to rebuild the velvet drives. He was getting the parts from a shop that supplied transmission parts to shops. I wanna say they are Ford C6 style clutches? Pennies compared to what the marine places charge.

Mike, I beleive that Gale Banks had a hand in designing them for Mercruiser, But they are actually mercruiser 475 Turbo engines. The exhaust manifold to turbo riser says Gale Banks on it.
