i pulled up to the beach yesterday, hung out for an hr or so, then went to leave and my trim would not go down. it wouldnt work at all as a matter of fact. i had it trimmed all the way up on trailer trim to help prevent sand getting in my lower unit. my buddy trimmed it up for me and could have possibly held the trim up for to long as he raised it. im not sure because i couldnt hear it due to music. anyways.......when we left, i had lost all of my trim. i have messed around with the switches and tried to mess around with the solenoid, but i have had limited tools at the moment . does anyone have any possible ideas as to what my problem could be? any info would be appreciated.

Did you manually trip and reset all of the circuit breakers?
Did you jump the terminals at the solenoid with a piece of wire or a screwdriver?
As long as the pumps have power, you should be able to manually trim it up and down at the solenoid by jumping.
If you stuck at high trim, do NOT run the motor, not even at idle. Your U-joints are at an acute angle, and it will destroy them. Even in neutral, your input shaft is spinning.
Baja actually wires the boats "correctly" with the trailer switch that allows you to trim all the way up. You may have something in that trailer override switch/limiter that has gone bad.
The solenoids do go bad, quite common actually. The two of them are held in by three bolts. If replacing one, go ahead and replace the other one. They are about $25 each at www.mercruiserparts.com and any other Mercury dealer.

both of the two red circuit breaker buttons are good. all i have with me at the moment is a test light until i get home. the 20a fuse at the trim pump is good. where does the solenoid get its power from? the trim switch itself? i've been looking for a schematic on this but have had 0 luck.

It should get it's power from the battery. The switch is a relay to turn it on.
Are both up and down not working?
Did you jump the two terminals (which bypasses the solenoid)? It will shoot a little spark at you, but your trim pump should engage if it has power. If you can get it to trim down, this should get you back to your trailer without a tow.

ok guys.....i kind of feel like an idiot but not really in a way. i stabbed my test light in the wire coming out of the battery..... it lit right up. went to the solenoids, it didnt light up. went down the wire about a foot from the battery and jabbed the test light in and it lit up. went about a foot away from the solenoid and jabbed my light in and it didnt light. had me thinking.....what the hell. apparently one of the previous owners added a second in line fuse to the trim solenoid for whatever reason i dont know, but it was blown! I just re-ran a new wire with one 50a fuse and ran the boat all day with no problems. easy fix, but i kind of feel stupid, but how was i supposed to know that? all of the wiring was in black tubing. thank everyone for there inputs! very useful knowledge for the future!
