Default Headed to Destin soon and not familiar with the bay or gulf - need some advise

I'm almost embarrassed to ask because I've been around boats all my life and even own a dealership, but... better to be safe than sorry.
I've been out on multiple bay fishing trips but I've never had our own boat out (formula 303).
I'm probably gonna have Legendary marine handle all my launching and stuff unless ya'll can point me in a better direction.
I'm also a little nervous about where NOT to go and stuff like that. Most likely we'll just cruise the bay, go to crab island, and maybe go a few miles out in the gulf. I have GPS, radio, and all that but like any other body of water I'm sure there is underwater dangers only the locals know.

Any help is appreciated

Don't know anything about the area you're going, (Destin), but I can share with you my experience going from all fresh water to the Gulf, first thing I would find a West Marine in the area and buy a map, they're usually only $30-40 bucks, but worth 10 times that, if your boat doesn't have a GPS, borrow one or get an app for your smart phone, then using the maps and GPS follow the markers out in the water and watch your depth finder and you'll be fine, just don't go screamin' all over the place until you get the hang of it.................at least that's what worked for me when I jumped into it 18 months ago, good luck and have fun.

A mapping GPS is worth its weight in gold down there. The bays is pretty safe but when you get close to the intercoastal canal make damn sure you're in the channel. The buoy's extend out into the bay for a reason. Stay on the correct side of them and you'll be fine. The pass going into the gulf can get some huge rollers in it so don't go hauling ass through it or you can get bit. Other than that common sense is your friend. Have fun, I love it down there.
