Default 312 audio upgrade help

This is my first time posting on oso. I just sold a 252ls and stepped up to an 03 312 fastech. The stereo is all stock with just the 6x9s in the cockpit and 4x10s in the cuddy. I picked up four Rockford 282 8 inch marine speakers and one 10 inch rockford sub. My question is if anyone has put a 8 inch speaker in the 6x9 opening and if just trimming of the hole is all I need to do. Also I want to put the other two speakers under the rear seat, and I need to find a place to put the sub. If anyone has experience with this any info would be greatly appreciated Anyone?

I just finished doing this exact setup. You cant just cut the hole bigger for the 282's the lower mounting points will be void. And it wont completely cover the cutouts. I tried this at first, the 282's can handle a ton of bass and sounded like crap. I built special panels out of high density pvc board. turned out great and made these speakers sound sooo much better . I installed the other pair of 282's under the rear bench closer to the center so it wont interfere with the battery box doors. im running all speakers on a jl audio 600/6 that is in the cabin closet.

As for the sub. I have a 10" also. I haven't installed it yet. I was thinking in between the two 282's under the bench. The other option is the step by the port bolster, but I'm hesitant to cut a hole in something i cant easily repair.

heres a pic. would have been better but it was raining, and didnt wanna remove the cover.

Thanks for the info, and the pic. that panel looks great! I was thinking I would have to do something like that. like you said I don't want to interfere with the battery doors under the rear bench. did you enclose the back of the speakers at all under the seat? the port step looks like it would be a good location for the sub, but I am leery about cutting fiberglass also. I have a m600/4 Rockford amp and planned on getting a single channel amp for sub. Overall how does it sound with just the 4 282s? If you get a chance more pics would be great......thanks again!

No problem!! thats what were here for. I'm just glad i could finally contribute. The 282's sound great!!! mine are not enclosed. they produce great sound, can be a bit "bright" if you have the treble high. Whatever way you decide to mount them, make sure its rigid. they produce great low and mid tones, and if not mounted firmly will create rattles, and you will lose the performance of them. Honestly you will probably be happy with just the 4 282's if tuned properly.

let me know if you have any ideas on the sub location. Im kinda in the same situation as you.
