Default Gaffrig mufflers?????

The noise police have come crashing down hard up here in Maine I have a Cig with 750 Hawks, they have 671 blowers and fairly lumpy hydraulic roller cams ans CMI headers. The pipes are dry until they enter the transom.Told I have to run the mufflers in the closed position ALL the time or take the boat out of the lake!

What would be a safe rpm or the rpm limit with these motors and the Gaffrig mufflers?

I have been told not to run hard with them closed.

Thanks, Kurt.

Mike Livrosi said to me to stay out of the boost range, Engine builder says 3000 RPM with them closed. They are Gaffrig outlaws. IMCO has some Gattling fulltime mufflers that are supposed to handle big engines at full power. You may want to check them out.

Biggus I think it was IMCO that had a Variable db muffler. IE it can slowly go from all the way quite to all the way loud or anywere in btwn. As I understand it they can be run WOT with them closed. You think I am going to have a problem up there?

Dude have you told him that you are doing everything you can to find a solution to the noise and that you are trying to quite it down but it takes some time? I would hope that with that at leaste they all will back off knowing that you are diligently looking for a solution to the issue.

I would like to hear some more input on these mufflers. What could possibly happen if I left them on full time. The crybabies seem to have a lot of pull with the local law enforcement.

I was pulled over a week ago and was given a citation and have to go to court in Oct. Saturday afternoon I was pulled over again and this time I had the Gaffrigs working and was told that I was a little over but he would leave me alone because I gave some effort to control noise. I do not want to hurt these motors, they have run so nice all season. I`d rather pay a fine every now and then. But I was also told by the game warden that he has the power to ban me from using the boat if I do not comply with the law.

I made some calls for you today dude. Teague's 450 tips look to be like they will be your best bet. There are NO tips that can be run at over 4000 rpm with them closed. Teage said that theirs would probably be good up to 4000rpm with your engines. Then switch them open and go for it. They will with out a doubt get you to the limit that you need to. I am waiting back for the official reply from gaffrig but they are saying about 3500rpm's max. The guys at Teague said that Bob will often times run big power up to 5 grand and forget to turn the things open. Of course he can just rebuild them himself

Ok now me time Hey is there any chance that if I give you all my boat and trailer info you can register the thing for me up there? I will not have the time to make it up there and need it done before next weekend and get the plate to me. If you can do that it would be great.

Thanks
Jon
