Youtube shows how to check it. Basically take the orange(think it was that one) wire off and put a miliamp gauge to it and it's connection on the blue box. Compare specs. The Merc tool is a DVOM set to A with a special lead(it has a resistor) to put in the water and the other lead to ground??? can't remember. The anode thing in the water also has an ohm spec.

Theres a procedure listed in the Merc manual for checking the operation of the controller (the blue thingy in your boat ) and the electrode unit on the bottom side of your TA. Then with a DVM and a Silver-Silver Chloride electrode to measure how well you are protected, or overprotected.
