I was going to put dana's on my 502 this winter but a friend of mine has them and he has not had good luck with them and he turned me off to them. They have cracked several times and have been welded up. He said once they can no longer be fixed he is changing to something else. His is a 502 also, dont know if there is a difference between the 496 or not.

We have done quite a bit of testing and several installs of the Dana exhaust. The only issues I've ever seen were extreme overheating from an impeller failure causing some cracking issues (as with any aluminum manifold) Here is a link to an article I wrote that should help answer your questions.

Also, those manifolds are still in use on that boat, but with over 1000 HP. We had them make up some custom larger risers with turnouts to mate up with the corner exhaust outlets on the Nordic.

Turbulators are between the risers and manifold on stock 496 exhaust. They do (supposedly) serve a purpose of helping prevent moisture from running back down into the manifold. But for those of us chasing every horsepower, it's there. Never heard of anyone having issues by removing them on stock or slightly modified engines.

I would never buy a set, i have a friend that bought a boat and a set came with it,prior to him getting them the old owner ov the boat granaded his engine..my buddy bought it and installed the dana's and he has reversion issues on a stock engine with a vary mild cam..apon removal he noticed that they were castled way off from the exhaust ports..only half the port was letting the exhaust out..dana was good about it and sent him new manifolds and extended the ss risers so they would not revert water,,well milk shake oil again,,i gave him a set of old stock aluminum manifolds i had and he instaalled them and all his troubles went away..
