Go to boatlocal.com, there is a great deal of information in regard to the rivers and lakes around the Pittsburgh area.

Not sure what's around Pittsburg other then the rivers there, I imagine lots of garbage floating around in the spring. If you head west into Ohio the is Salt Fork. Nice little lake with no limitations I believe.

Ask rollwithit. He is a local Pittsburgh guy there with a 36 Baja.

In new Ken. you will be on the Allegheny River, if I recall the river is a little narrow up there but still very usable. I think you need to go threw two locks to get into the Pittsburgh pool, witch will let you get to the Ohio and Monongahela rivers. The down town Pittsburgh pool is fun with a big no wake zone around the point, but only on the weekends. There are plenty of places to tie up to and get something to eat or go into a baseball game. Early spring or any time after a hard rain really the rivers will get some floating wood and what not. I boat a couple of locks up the other way on the Monongahela but try to make several trips down town each summer. All and all it is pretty good boating if your ok only going up or down river.

Pittsburgh boating is not bad. Given the choice between open water or the river, I would take open water obviously. But the convenience that comes with having your boat close to home is nice. I dock at Fox Chapel Yacht Club, and there is a decent number of offshore boats in the area.

As state one issue with the river is that you can have beautiful weather and ****ty water conditions, but for the most part its only a couple weeks a year.

Let me know if you have any questions.

EDIT: Clean out your PM box.

A lot of good information has already been posted on here. As stated, check out Boatlocal.com. Its owned and ran by a good buddy of mine, Terry Grantz, who lives all things boating. If you are living in the New Ken area you will be on the Allegheny River There is some nice boating up in that area. The first pool immediately above the main Pittsburgh Pool is a smaller pool though and kinda narrow. If you trailer your boat you have plenty of launch options. Sometimes this is quicker than using the locks, especially following a big event.

I keep my boat at Newport Marina on the Ohio river. It is owned by my family and very convenient. Feel free to ask any questions.

Inbox is empty sorry. I usually trailer the boat but also looking to possibly keep it somewhere as we're not 100% sure on living arrangements yet. That's where the company is located we haven't really decided where we are going to live yet. Thanks for the help
