Default Breaking News: Canoe Flips On Small Lake. Helicopter, Police, Fire!

A little overreaction or what? Would be funny if it wasn't my tax money being wasted. This is a very small & warm lake. From Yesterday's local paper:

WEST BLOOMFIELD

CANOE OVERTURNS IN PLEASANT LAKE

Two people who fell into Pleasant Lake were helped to shore by emergency responders shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter was called to the scene and a deputy found the people, who were wearing life jackets and had been in a canoe that overturned. Police officers and firefighters from West Bloomfield used a boat to reach them and returned them to shore. No injuries were reported.

Better than reading that 2 people had drowned from a lack of tax base to fund the rescue.

Sounds like the authorities found a way to write in a "search and rescue" into their books.

But dispatching a helicopter because a canoe flipped? News flash. Canoes flip all the time.

Rescue? They couldn't right the canoe? This lake is so small they could have swam to shore or a lakefront resident could have picked them up. I think this is going over someone's head......

Good practice for a more serious event I'd say

do you think for one second that your taxes would be lowered if the helicopter never flew*?

They should've sent the divers into the water as well. Why not a SWAT team in case of possible terrorist activity. An upside down canoe sounds 'fishy'...pun intended. Oakland County Sheriff's Office is slacking.

I think it's going over your head......really? did you ever stop to think maybe the 2 people were, elderly, handicapped, psychically disabled, Asthma, unable to swim, panicked or whatever.....and your logic that the lake is small enough to swim across sucks because many people have drowned in a swimming pool.

Imagine yourself in the middle of a lake at close to sunset, I'm sure you would be happy about the response! Most PD & Fire helicopters have heat imaging, a great way to find people in that situation. If it had been a single boat looking for them it may have take hours. Even though it was a warm lake, hours in water below body temp can still be harmful. And the other reason that responders mass a large response, if something goes wrong you have you backup on standby, not 20 min away.
