Fireworks, Heat, Kids...Oh My!

It is summer there's no doubt! It is hot! Lately when we're out on the boat we've got to put on the sunblock hourly and we still get sunburn! This past week we've made it to lakes twice. We went swimming in Lake Butler and Lake Minneola This weekend is the Fourth of July holiday weekend and the lakes will be packed. We like to head over to Lake Dora and watch the fireworks from the boat on the water, it's beautiful. It makes for a long day on the water because in order to get parking you've got to be on the lake in the morning. Lots of families will be out on their boats so we want to give some reminders and tips for the best Fourth of July boating with the kids.
Leave the alcohol home or have a sober captain. Your family is the most precious gift you'll ever have no drinking and boating, always safety first. If that's not your rule my family is precious to me and I don't want a drunken boater hitting us.
Everyone on the boat needs a life jacket. Kids should always be in a jacket when running along the water whether it's the law or not. If they fall over, there's an accident or bad weather they are covered. We'll be boating in the dark back to the ramp everyone needs a jacket on.
Bring plenty of drinks. Water, soda, juice and pack it down with ice you need to keep hydrated. Little kids can dehydrate fast make them drink.
If you're going to be out all day pack the snacks. Even if you're going to eat at a restaurant kids need snacks and if you should break down or get delayed getting out of the water everyone's fed and happy.
Protect your kids from the sun and heat. Keep them sun blocked up and a swim shirt makes for good sun protection. Sun burned kids are miserable and they will let you know protect your kiddos. Get them wet to keep them cool. Let them take a dip in the lake and put up the Bimini top if you have one. If your boat has no sun cover make sure you take some breaks out of the sun or limit your time out on the water.
We have a special needs child so being out all day this year is not an option. My hubby will put the boat in during the morning hours and we will drive separate and meet him for a late lunch and then the fireworks. The heat and time on the boat are too much for her so we adjust things to meet our family’s needs.
There's nothing like the sweet memories made boating with the family in the summer. Our kids will remember these times and cherish our great family traditions. Watching the fireworks while floating around on the boat, awesome!
We hope your next adventure in boating is a sweet one. Happy Fourth of July and have the best boating summer ever!

Yes it is a blast to go boating and watching fireworks on the 4th! We're gonna head out early as the marina gets insane, and we want to get a good spot to anchor to watch fireworks. I wanted to mention I just bought one of the slide box anchors and this thing is awesome!! Definitely worth the money if anyone is considering buying one. What snacks do yall bring out? We bring out apples, carrots and veggies(ranch dressing), some cookies, lots of water and Gatorade and then adult beverages for those not driving.

To play devils advocate for a minute. My plan is to put on sunscreen after its too late and I am already cooked. My life jackets are under the bed in the cabin (kids will have on while moving) I am going to run way faster than I should, my music will be so loud the bass will make your chest pound. I am going to have a couple beers ( will not be drunk) I am going to stay out as long as possible and burn as much gas and have on board. When I get back to land I will still feel like I am rocking. I am going to party like a its my last day on earth my kids will be smiling all day. I will do all this being as responsible as possible but life and boating comes with risks. Risks I am willing to take!! If you are the guy who covers your ears when I pull up because my exhaust is too loud or you are the guy who tells me to turn down my stereo I feel bad for you. Relax and have some fun

Have a safe and happy boating July 4 .
