Default Lake George

I will be in lake George next week for a family reunion, staying in Silver Bay area, my mom grew up in Saratoga so she choose Lake George for the reunion.

Any tips for a good time with the family. (young kids) I plan on renting a pontoon or something to check out the lake.

Good restaurants close by?

What is the water temps?

Looking forward to it, should be a nice change from the beach life every weekend.

We will be there July 13-17. The lake is spectacular. Great spot to eat is The Alconquin. Bolting landing is the place to be. Water temps will probably be a bit chilly considering the winter had. You will never go to the beach again after this experience. Enjoy and be safe !!!

I have a house up there and will likely be up there the 3rd-7th. The Boathouse and Algonquin are the 2 best restaurants to hit by water in the Bolton Landing area, which is on the west side of the lake about 8 miles north of Lake George village(which is at the extreme south of the lake).

The best restaurant in the area IMO is The Log Jam, which is a 10 minute drive from the village. It's right in the heart of all of the outlets, so if you have some shopping to do, this is a good place to go.

Six Flags Great Escape will keep the kids(and you) busy for a day.

Water slide world has the only wave pool in NYS(at least they use to advertise this)

Painted Pony Rodeo(wed, fri, sat nights) would be a fun family activity. It's about 10 minutes from the village in Lake Luzerne.

Tons of horseback riding, mini golf, ice cream, arcades, etc. within a short drive of LG village.

Have fun!

Water temp says it's 69 which is about the same as Long Island sound. It's a little chilly but not bad.

I don't bring my boat up to the lake anymore. They don't like noise and I'm not spending money on mufflers to use once a year.

Just read this, but the water temperature is perfect, oddly enough it is warmer at this time this year than it was last year.

I am considering going here in mid-August for a long weekend, maybe longer. Used to go when I was a kid but I don't remember much. Will be me, my wife and our 6 month old daughter. Any reasonable places to stay on the water? We used to stay at a cottage back in the day, I would prefer that over a hotel room. Will not be bringing my boat but I would probably rent one. What are the best places to check out on the water if I only have a couple days?

Trying to come up with a new place to vacation in/around New England. Usually I would be on my boat around LIS for a week, but it's staying on shore this year. Other considerations are Acadia NP in Maine, or maybe heading south to beaches in NC area...?

If you rent a boat check out some of the bays. Log Bay is my favorite, followed by Red Rock Bay and Sandy Bay. Call ahead to rent a boat. They have rentals in the village but they are a rip off. I would try Chic's in Bolton Landing. The Algonquin is a nice restaurant on the water, also in Bolton.

I'll check it out, thanks.

I second that- Chic's is a good place just south of the main town in Bolton Landing to rent a boat. If you're looking to have fun and hang out, party on the water, then Log Bay is your best bet (since you'll be there on the weekend). If you want to relax with others in a more tame environment, try Red Rock or Sandy Bay. Lastly, check out Paradise Bay, where you can't anchor but it is beautiful and a nice spot to hang with the family. I can't help with the cottages portion, but if you have any other questions shoot me a PM!
