Default Trim Tab Cable Replacement

My starboard trim tab cable broke where it attaches to the tab. I've got the numbers off of the old cable, but when I look at the new cables they're bare at both ends. My old cable has what looks like a black shrink wrap on the exterior portion from the stern to the tab connector. QUESTION: Do I need the shrink wrap stuff on the new one and If I do where can I find it??? Also...how do I get the plastic connect with the rubber seal off the stern without f...ing it up?
Thanks in advance for any/all advise.
