Default Long Island - Moriches Bay ??

Planning a trip out east in the next few weeks and I just read in this weeks Local Notice to Mariners that shoaling has been reported in the ICW in Moriches Bay, the full width of the channel with depths to 1 foot at high tide....

Has anyone been in that area at all recently that can pinpoint where the trouble spots are??

I was through there 2weeks ago and we ran the inside all the way.... I did not see a difference in the channels....for what is worth you have to stay right on the markers....don't ask me how I know...

thanks park35.. I won't ask, but you think it's ok as long as I stay in the marked channel?

When running the inside as I call it.,.line up with the .markers and you will be fine it does get shollow in spots..especially in front of the coast guard station in moriches...at low tide you will see depths of 3 ft at times hope that helps you

We made the run to Sag Harbor this past weekend. Getting through Moriches was no problem. Now, Tiana Bay, that is a different story.... narrow channel, completely blocked off with guys fishing, tried to be a good guy and maneuver around them instead of going right through the lot of them.. no good deed goes unpunished..LOL... next thing I know, I'm seeing clear green water and I'm looking right at the bottom.... thankfully, at that very moment, a TowBoatUS guy was literally 20 yards away, we hailed him and we were out of there in 30 minutes to continue our journey to Sag Harbor. Sorry, fishing guys.. next time I'm comin right through. Gotta love unlimited towing coverage....

As for the trip itself, it was a GREAT run.. very scenic, lot of fun going through the Shinnecock canal and once you're in the Peconic Bays, it doesn't feel like you're in Long Island at all.. highly recommend the trip...
