Default 34 PC vs 370SS

I am looking at these two boats, neither new. Probably 2003 to 2005. I am wondering what the difference is in ride at cruise, and slower. Top speed is not as important. In NJ I am more concerned with ride in a windy chop on the Barnegat Bay, say at 25 to 35 mph. I also want to know , in a no wake zone, which are plentiful here, how these boats do. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Two different beasts shekmark, I boat the same waters and can say you cannot compare the ride of PC to SS. PCs are a little slower but because they are heavier and obviously they do no have the fastech hull steps. That weight and deep V is what you want to slice through the sloppy Jersey waters. The 34 has plenty of upstairs entertaining room and downstairs is very spacious with a big bed in the front, the cabin has a lot of headroom whereas the SS lineup are more targeted to day boating and has more upstairs entertaining room which sacrifices the downstairs space. Depending what engines you pick for the SS you will be in the 50-60 range. With the PC you are in the 40-50 range WOT. Both can cruise in the 30-40 range.

You are comparing two of the best boats on the water, whatever you choose you will have made a great choice, but you need to jot down how you are going to use your boat. If it is runs to Atlantic City for the weekend, or to spend weekends on it then the PC will most likely serve you better. If you have a house on the water and the boat is more to go out on day trips with the occasional overnight-er then the SS may suit you right.

BTW not sure if you know of the Formulaboatsforum's Golden Nugget Rendezvous coming up at the end of this month or Formula Owners of New Jersey's Birds on the Bay Formula Rendezvous next month.

There's a guy that comes to our club often with a 370ss, what a beautiful boat. Im not much of a cruiser guy but that ss is one awesome boat! Don't think you'll be cramped for space one bit

Thanks for both of your opinions. I stepped on a 34 PC today at Comstock today. Thats a lot of boat compared to my 330SS. Really nice inside, but have to decide if I really need all that . I have not been on a 370 yet. They are a bit more scarce around me. Not in a rush though.

I agree with I.D.C.E., comes down to how you boat. We have a house on the water so the SS was a great day boat for us for years. But it is not much of an overnight boat IMO. The biggest mistake is to buy an SS for better top end speed if you run in rough water. But you already know that with the 330. None of them are a fun ride at 50 in really rough water.

Over simplified, but think of the PC as a motorhome you and three others could live in for a few week vacation. Think of the SS as a conversion van useful for traveling somewhere in, or using for tailgating parties. There is overlap of course, but that is how the two boats were intended, and built for. Either way, you are good.
