Default Merc add on external steering help

I am in process of finishing up the installation of an old style Merc external hydraulic add on system to my 1989 Formula 311 SR 1 . The system is mounted between the drives and I have hooked up the Starboard side to the first outlet on the Saginaw valve ( as seen from inside the boat looking at the transom) and the Port side to the back outlet on the Saginaw valve -is that correct?
I have disconnected the inside tie bar from the Port side to the Starboard side and taken it out of the boat.
Do I need to disconnect the Starboard side as well or is it OK to leave the starboard side connected??
Any diagrams would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
