Yes, we replaced one one on my friends 525 that steered manually no matter if the motor was running or not.

Ok,and after replacing the pump the steering was ok? With other words, the original pump did not work .It looks like I have to get another pump yes.

The pump was not working. It was very tough to steer. If the wheel is easy to turn and the boat does not turn you may just have to bleed the air out of the lines.

Most likely.

That situation happened on the Checkmate after we converted it to full hydraulic. Was ok while cruising but when idling and the pump pressure was less it was a MF to turn. We ended up putting a new pump on it.

Sorry I did not explaine that I got a separate hydraulic system with helm pump instead of the Std cable steering, thanks.

So do we on the 253, im not 100% sure but I think the helm pump is there to direct the flow of fluid left to right.

The power steering pump on the engine is what is lacking causing it to be really hard to turn at idle.
