I have a III with a BorgWarner tranny that I need to replace the I/O because there are no parts available and I believe I lost a gear tooth in the lower.. Does anyone know if a TR/TRS would bolt into my gimble? I am completely confused by some postings that say they are the same and some say they aren't and after spending $ on another unit a 1/4" would screw my pooch so what do I need to look out for?
.
I broke the halfs apart and the lower case spline is 1 1/8" with 17 splines. The prop shaft is 1 1/2" with 23 splines. The ratio is real close to 1.3:1

Konrad Marine makes a direct replacement for the old Merc III (spins 20" dia prop) bolts directly to the Merc III gimbal. $9995. Feel free to call for more info Kurt 715 410 0735
-TR/TRS are entirely different units and will NOT work for your application.

It's not listed on their website, It's a PRS III fitted with the 520 lower gear case. -I'm a factory rep for Konrad and handle the majority of Merc replacement applications.

Well no answer here so I going on a 10 hour trip to find out if a TR\TRS upper will bolt to a mercruise III gimble.
Cheers
The answer is NO, the six studs are slightly different spacing. The top two are 2 9/16" on the III and 3 1/16" on the TR.
