Default VDO to Autometer or Hardin Marine Gauges

Duplicate thread, also in electronics forum.

Do I need to change the senders in order for the Hardin Marine gauges or for Autometer to work? Original VDO gauges in the FASTech and still original senders.

What would be a good fuel sender replacement for the original and work with the Autometer / Hardin Marine?

Best replacement 3 wire alternator for the NA HP 500?

Thanks in advance for info!!

I went to Faria on my 2000 280 SS, all gauges work perfectly without sender changes. The ones you're looking at may be similar. I have 350 EFI's.

Thank you, I thought I remember reading that the VDO senders don't work with other brands.

Merc doesn't put VDO senders on. It's hit or miss, the older Birds I'd agree. The late 90's use ECU's and thus Merc would not use non merc parts to interface with the ECU's. You need to try them before you change them, you'd be surprised. Spoke to VDO before I did mine, that is what they told me to do - will save headaches and money.

Well changed out the gauges to Autometer. Had to enlarge the little gauge hole a bit, and the large holes were to big for the replacements, so had to do bezels to make it fit right. Also changed out all the senders for piece of mind. Full Throttle Marine did all the work. Pictures have green tint, due to the boat cover on and taking pics underneath. All in all, I like it better than original.
