Default Monarch Mooring whips... Sizing?

Looking to get a set of Monarch Mooring whips for my new to me 1981 Pantera 24 with a small block mercruiser. They use boat length and not weight to determine the length of whip you need. The Monarch chart states the 14' whips for up to 23 foot boat & the 16' whips for up to 30 foot boat. Spoke with someone at Monarch on the phone and he stated the 14' whips can easily handle a 5000 lb boat. The Pantera website lists the boat at 3950 lbs.

Looking for anyone with experience with whips to chime in.

I'd rather overkill it. You may have friends come buy with a bigger boat. Every time I use the whips at my buddy's house, I am amazed they don't snap even on small boats.
