OK, not boat related per se but I plan to use the car to tow my flatbottom v-drive so close. just bought a 1960 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and since I have to freshen the engine I was thinking about using the Holley commander 950 TBI that is left over from a blown engine. I am worried that the injectors are going to be too big to control and was hoping someone is familiar with this unit and if there is an injector that fits it without paying holley $500 for theirs. the engine is 390 ci and was rated at 325 hp. even tho the body is more cfm than it needs I am hoping it will work as the old rochester 4jet is pretty worn out and injection might even get it over the 10 mpg mark. any hope or am I dreaming?

Im not sure where you're going to find those old style injectors, but if you could find some cheap it may be worth it.
Do you know a manual for the kit, maybe that says what type of injectors those are called?
EDIT:
Nevermind, looks like it can be 650,700,or 950.
Heres the manual online, but says nothing about injector type, just size.

The tbi style injection does not get much better fuel mileage then a good quadrajet.
Low throttle positions take a nice atomized spray and collect it on the throttle blade....all to go down a carbureted intake.
It's just the way it is.
PS: Holley TBI Injectors are not known for dependability.

those are all the things I was concerned with. I have a 5.3 ls complete with trans and all the wiring, etc that I may put in it. the problem with the pre 63 caddy 390 is that it is a different platform and parts are pricey. with what I know the engine needs it would be half the money to just upgrade it to the ls and store the original parts.

Back in the late 90's Sea Ray boats had a comparison of TBI vs Carb 2bbl apps in some cases the carb model had better fuel GPH. TBI really is very outdated fuel injection system - actually we see more problems with a TBI fuel set up on marine apps than a carb fuel system app will ever see. I understand this is not a boat related per your question but just some marine info. TBI really is 1980's auto fuel injection set up..

Dropping the fuel pressure will lower the output of your injectors. Do you know what size the current injectors are and the pressure their rated flow is at? If you have that, we can do some math to come up with a good pressure number that should get the fuel close.

if there was an intake for this version caddy motor for a quadrajet I might do it but this is the old 4 jet. plus the rebuild kit with pistons is over $1500 just for stock parts, the heads would have to have hardened seats and guides as several valves are really stuck, plus machine work, plus going thru an old 4 speed hydramatic all to have 320 hp. looks like I am going to put the LS motor and overdrive in it for now and go play.
as for the Holley tbi, it looks like it has the newer version of injector in it but it does not look like it would be enough improvement to be worth while so I think it will end up on ebay.

This guy is active on boatfreaks. He helped me set up a tbi on a modified vortec 350 for my 95 2 door Tahoe 4wd mud truck.
Has all the good stuff for tbi
