Hi All,
I am new to the Go Fast world but been a boater for over 25 years. Just got a 353 Formula last week with 502's coverted to 575 HP, and I noticed last night that my Oil Pressure gauge on my starboard motor is sitting at 70 at idle and underload and my port motor is at 20 at idle and 40 under load. I checked oil in both motors and they are perfect and both motors seem to be running perfect. I'm wondering if this could be a sending unit or a bad gauge, if anyone has had similar issues before? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd put a mechanical on both and see what you got. 40psi wide open is a touch low. I have been converted of late to the "oil pressure eats horsepower" argument, but still hold on to the 10psi per 1000 rpm mantra. Mechanical is the only way to know for sure for sure!

Where should it be installed?

three places available. best is the 1/8th pipe thread fitting above the oil filter on the left (port) side of the motor, if you can reach it, That's straight off the oil pump. There is also a port down the mains rail at the front of the motor, just above the pan, left side. It's after mains and rods. Easiest but hardest to tell where and if you have an oiling problem is at the back, on top of block (not heads) behind the intake. Pressure there is after pump, mains, rods and lifters, so it's hard to isolate, but will give you a good overall reading. Don't spend a ton on a gauge, just get a 80psi gauge from O'reillys and hook it up. Good pressure both sides, then you know you have an electric gauge/sender problem.
Oil pressure is the life blood of these bad boys, gotta know exactly what ya got!
