I have been wanting some more power for my 97 Baja 252. I picked up a motor that I plan to swap in this coming winter. Its a GenVI 509 that was built in 2009 and currently has approx 300 hours on it. It comes with well documented build sheet and has some pretty nice parts (I think). 509 so obviously its been bored slightly, stock steel crank, stock mag rods,Manley flat top forged pistons. All ARP bolts throughout. Heads are stock 502 Rectangle ports with Manley SS valves and heavy duty springs and Crane Gold rockers. Has a mild cam mid 230's duration and 59X lift on 114 lsa. Merlin high rise intake with Pro systems 930CFM carb specd to motor. It also has a DUI distributor since it was converted to carb. My question is what all should I do before I swap this in. For sure Im going to pull the heads and send them off for inspection and fresh up. As far as the bottom end goes I know it needs to be inspected by a pro but at 300 hours should I expect to do new bearings, rings etc? Previous owner had motor in 29 Scarab, %90 fresh with once a year trip to coast or poker run. I know there are a lot of what ifs and how acurate was the info given and what not. Im just asking what should I be prepared for to have this drop in ready
Thanks

I picked it up for $2500.00 I would be happy with 450 HP. Im really just wanting it to stay in the form its in now just wondering what all I might need to do to make sure its as reliable as possible before putting it in my boat. I have a stock GenVI 454 Carbed motor in there now and cant get out of the high 50's. Im hoping for mid to high 60's with this 509. Im also going to use EMI exhaust manifolds and risers.

Bearings are cheap and relatively easy to replace, but if little on no wear is showing on them not sure if it's worth it to replace them. Did they document the clearances on all the bearing on the build sheet? Is it a hyd roller or flat tappet cam? What springs, lifters pushrods and rockers were used?
Might be worth it to run it on a stand before tearing down so you can note oil pressure, do a compression and leakdown test, etc.

Gen VI Hyd Roller, clearances documented on all bearings. Im thinking since its out and accesable I may tear it all the way down and have block hot tanked, have new cam bearings put in, new main and rod bearings and maybe go ahead and re ring it along with valve job on heads
