My inner seals on one of my axles need to be replaced. I am considering going to "oil bath hubs" since I am already going to be tearing into half of the hubs already. Any thoughts, for or against doing this? Or should I just upgrade to a bearing buddy type set up with a better inner seal?

with oil if you get a leak then your done..with grease you know you can at least do a quicj\k repack to make it home..when ordering the seal tell them you want a double lip seal..bearing buddys might be the cause..people usually over fill them..i just give them a couple pumps for the season..

Myco ships their trailers with grease and oil bath rear seals. It seems to work well. I replaced all of mine with the same setup as stock and am happy. I don't like the thought of an oil bath hub that gets dipped in the water as in for a boat trailer application; pressurized or not.

I use Air tight's. If the bladder has a little pressure before launching you are good! Never a issue with water with all my florida trips. Its a great system.

Stay with grease. If oil bath was so good,all trailer makers would use it.

A friend has a bass boat with oil bath in his trailer. Nothing but problems.... One always is a milkshake.

I had the Vanguard "Hybrid Oil" system on my trailer and just converted over to grease and bearing buddies. I kept losing the end cap on one wheel and when that happens it doesn't take long before the bearing over heats and burns out. With the new setup my hubs run a lot cooler.

Thanks for the replies, I will stick with grease and a Bearing Buddy type setup forget about the oil bath.

Currently the axles just have dust covers and I am sure the cheapest inner seals, so either way this will be an upgrade.

I have the "Vault" hybrid oil bearings. Never had a problem in 7 years.

I like that set up. However, I called a local trailer manufacture and parts company that is local and they said I may need a new axle in order for it to work. Tell me this isn't true? I have the 7,000lbs (6 lug) torsion axles on the trailer and it is a Manning Trailer, if that means anything to anyone.
