Default Skater 30 with twin Merc Verado 350 scis

Hi,

A Danish team just secured the offshore record from Copenhagen to Oslo in a Ribcat with triple Verado 350 sci engines. They used 3 hrs 57 mins. Top speed 128 mph. The engines worked flawlessly.

I have a Verado 350 sci on my ol Phantom 25. Been great since day one. I wonder how a twin set up on a Skater 30 will be. I know you can respline Sportmasters but they will not last long. The Danish team used for the offshore original HD Poseidon lowers..

What do you think? It will be reliable package, but how will it handle?

Thanks!!

Cheers Toffen

I think it would be cool to see but I can't see the speeds being much if any higher than a pair of 300xs motors. That is a lot of weight back there and like you said the lower are the weak link.

We (my brother and I) are looking at having to replace one of the 300 XS engines on his Skater 30. (Lost a lower unit and part of a mid section in Lake Erie, and the motor cost more to repair than new!) One thing we heard is a rumor about the 350 Verado being upgraded, maybe to a 400. If so, we'd consider a pair of them for the Skater. Don't want to get 350 Verado's, as they won't be any faster than the 300's with all of that extra weight. But, if they were 100 hp more each than the 300 XS's, maybe that would work.....

How much are they charging for a new mid and lower unit? I have a hard time believing its 17k for that work

Don't have the exact quote, but it's a crank too, possibly a short block. The used engine is most likely a better solution.
