In the past few years I've heard a lot of people asking, "Whatever happened to 'entry-level' sportboats?" And that's been a good question.
Relative to the pricing I've seen on other new models, these boats are offered at entry-level prices.

I understand what you by "relative" pricing; however, $42K for an 16' Donzi with a V-6 is a tough pill me for me to swallow, so I guess I am not going to take my medicine. I was 4 years old in 1969 when my father bought a brand new 16' Donzi with a small block and Volvo drive (pictured below with windshield), I know he is rolling over in his grave with that price, but then again 35 years later, prices go up, the boat (design) stays the same, ..... the price formula is as follows: 9 x 1969 pricing = 2014 pricing ?
I had 18' Donzi (white one pictured below), I like Donzi, I can't live in the past with pricing, but c'mon man, ....Ignore the Pantera and Carlson Tunnel boat, I could not edit out those past family boats.
PS I do like that 22' Donzi pictured in your article, it does look great to me...

I'd have to take a look at the engine package pricing, but I think JW is right… These are bargain prices.
Actual build cost is the same, new mold or old. Yes, they haven't invested in tooling updates…
Anyone need a nice 16 Whaler Dauntless? Buy it and I'll call JW to get one of these on order...

I've owned two 18's over the years ( '71 and '68 ) and really enjoyed them . I guess that is a nice deal ( $20,000 off list ) for a boat always considered a cut above. My dad worked at Venice Marina Donzi dealer in the '60's - '70's and told me a funny story . A new customer was trying to negotiate a deal on a 18' and Bob Whitebrook , in the middle of the showroom , yelled " I WILL NOT PROSTITUTE THIS BOAT ". The customer sheepishly wrote the check ( everybody paid at least list price + ) . Another asked how the Volvo outdrive worked and he answered " smoothly " . They sold a lot of Donzis and Mags back in the day !!!
