Has anyone ever changed an Oil Thermostat in a HP500 Filter housing? I see there is a C-clip to remove but what else holds in the thermostat?
Thanks,
Dean

Dean, I have done it, but its been a while. I do believe once you remove the c clip, you can use some needle nose pliers to gently wiggle the black plastic cap and pull it out. There will be a spring, and the thermostat element behind there.
Are you still having oil temp/pressure issues?

I find it easier with another set of hands when going back together. Use a socket that just fits over the center nipple and use it to push down on the cap. Have someone else install the snap ring. You can do it by yourself, but it's easier with 2 people. Just be sure that the snap ring is completely seated. It's a very straight forward job.

Thanks for the tip! It's already a tight fit with the engine hatch being in the way. Eddie have you seen many of these thremostats fail closed?

Hi Dean
I think I may have need to replace one of mine as well, I recently noticed my port side oil temp on mine climbs to 230 & stays there for a bit & rapidly drops back to 180, it did this a couple times, & each time stays at 230 for longer period ... ( SB stays @ 180-190 while cruising @ 3200) would this indicate a possible oil stat issue?
