Ok so I'm finally done for the season.. Got the boat pulled off the rack and it's back at my shop for a little TLC.. I have a few mods I was thinking of adding, and that's where you guys can clear a few things up for me.. Motor in the boat now is a SBC rebuilt last year, runs great 4barrel holley... Buddy of mine recently gave me a single turbo setup off his running sbc he upgraded to a BB..
This exact setup http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k6...rboebay022.jpg
I have a few questions, I'm really just trying to wake up motor a bit.. It's currently running a sad 48MPH.. Again I got this setup free so I wanted to try it out I have a few concerns
1) the down pipe (exhaust off turbo) would go straight to the thru hull fitting w/flapper.. Do you guys think It would burn the flapper up? Secound is there a way to make it a "wet down pipe" so water flows through both sides? I'm currently running wet exahust should I convert the other manifold to a dry manifold? If I plug the water to that single manifold would that create a blockage causing cooling issues
2) I'm currently running at 4,800 RPM within spec.. If I go up a few prop sizes I increase the load causing lower rpms can I adjust the boost to compensate the higher pitched props..
I've dealt with turbos on cars never one on a sbc.. Or with a marine application and suggestions would be appreciated..
Thanks

First off you can get AIDS for free also but that doesn't mean you have too !
I love wild abnormal $hit that nobody else has but I'm going to say in this case pass it on, not going to be worth the aggravation to make 40-60 more HP on your small block and gain maybe 5mph... you can buy a take out drop in 454-502 for $1500 and gain 15mph in a fraction of the time...
That being said ! Is that a single turbo? You can't cut off water to your manifold unless your trying to collect insurance money and any good welder fabricator can build a nice wet pipe and as far as making boost that all depends on how well your motor is built. A boost built motor can handle 10-15 lbs but if it's not built for it your not gonna wanna run more the 5lbs.
Turbo's are way cool on boats but in the end even with some free parts your gonna spend way more in labor and fabrication then a BBC motor swap...

Lol your probably right, I don't want to do an engine swap, motors running nice with no issues, I figured this was going to be a cheap way to gain some HP, Its all complete minus the down pipe which I figured was cheap..lol it's a single turbo, it's a draw threw system made by accel in the 80's, I think martini made one with the same concept..

If you wanna keep the small block you ought to look around and see if you can find a 177 or a 250. There was some on ebay and racing junk not to long ago for cheap. Or it might be a little more money but Procharger makes a SBC Kit . There's just gonna be way more tech support for one of these over what you've got there.
We need pictures of what you've got now if we're gonna be able to advise you any further. Lol!

Ok your absolutely right .. I've scrapped the turbo idea all together.. I'm going to look for a 177 I saw a few on eBay pretty cheap to.. Also I'm going to strip down the cabin and lay down a good coat of paint, the gel coat is lookin real dull.. Any recommendations on paint type? It's for inside the cabin, what have you guys used? Oil, epoxy, enamel? It's going over the old gel coat I'll shoot some pictures this afternoon when I get home..

High Build Primer for Easy Sanding: Duratec 707-061 EZ Sandiing Primer , Light Grey 707-091, Black 702-061, White 707-061. High build---to 40 mils, 1000 microns, wet on wet, without sagging on vertical surfaces., block sand it out and it will fill most anything then you can top coat it with anything you want depending on what kind of finish you want ............ I recommend you sand it then buff it, then take it to your local graphic shop and have the inside of your cabin wrapped with a cool night club seen with strippers in the background and I've got the perfect LED RBG strip light I can sell you for $100 ..
