Friend of mine claims running 90 ish with a 2005 42 fountain staggered twin 525...
How's this boat running compared to my friend's? Pros and cons?

TBH your friends numbers sound a little high. I was under the impression real world numbers on stag 525 42 were closer to 85-87. Talking peanuts here but still a difference. I would think a triple 500hp should be able to outrun a twin 525 boat. I know the stag helps with a higher ex. Both are stepped hulls so speed is negligible there. The real big step 98-99 boat may have been a few ticks faster in the 80range. From my understanding the latest bottom which your friend has is designed for better handling and stability in the 100s. The big step will get there but the later bottom was better once there.

The triple will be easier on drives. This is a very clean well maintained boat, I've known Doug for a long time. He's one of those guy's if something is not right it will drive him nuts till it's fixed.
