I need some help, I am going trough impellers on my sea pumps every year and not even getting 50 hrs out of them. They are on stock 500 efi's in a 382 Fastech with box's. I replaced the housings, (sierra) about 150 hrs ago so I went to look for Mercury replacements thinking maybe that would make a difference. While looking I came across stainless steel housings, but they are about $100.00 more. My question is, are they worth it and would it help me make my impellers last longer? Has anyone else had good or bad experiences with the stainless over mercury?

I have posted this before, I have switched to the Stainless housing because I was tired of replacing impellers and housings every season. The stainless housings have many rough edges and I spent some time with mine smoothing the edges to help reduce impeller wear and improve flow. I also remove the impeller after every season to reduce the set they take over winter. Since I have switched I am now on my third season with the same impeller.

You will have to do a search , could not get it to go to the site . the reason why I suspect you have other problems is the number of times you replaced the .impellers . You may have parts of your old impeller blades lodged in your water system and you need to get them out........Only a guess but you need to look at the pictures and you will see why and what I am talking about.

I have already back flushed the system and still blow them. Anyone have any feedback on the Siera water pump housing Last time I replaced it I didn't have the option of waiting for a Merc pump housing only thing available. Just wondering If the pump housing could be causing the issues and if the stainless ones would be better.

Sierra went to a different type housing now that is better as it is heavier and no internal slag. The ports a tad bit bigger as well. This is the route Sierra has taken since they bought Mallory Marine out in which had the best black plastic bravo style housing on the market.
Merc and Sierra WERE made by the same manu but currently I am not sure if Merc has changed any from the past. Also look down the road very soon as I am coming out with some Bravo housings and impellers to bring to the market. FYI
