The 5" bore stuff has been around since I believe 2000. Nothing new. Sonny and a few others have been building that stuff since the beginning. The 5" bore stuff is actually so old now that 5.300 has probably been out 5 years now.

Not trying to take away from the guys motor at all I'm sure it's a great package. My point was simply that he hasn't pioneered anything that stuff has been around a long time. Steve Morris hit the 2000hp mark on pump gas 4-5 years ago on a BBC platform. Can you hold it wide open forever? Of coarse not. But I doubt those motors will live long wide open too.

Point taken on power but you are comparing a drag motor to boat motor.. By the time most boats plane they would have run numerous passes... Morris builds a great drag motor and sonny's .. Ahhh ... We will leave it at that... I think the real point that is being missed is that it is relatively new technology in the marine industry outside of the 1350/1650 and most in the industry know how long those last. Goodwin does not buy a block, heads, intake, oil pan from other manufactures they design and build everything in house.. Time will tell how much of pounding they will take soon enough..

I'm sure. The 5.0 bore space is headed in the right direction. Everything becomes bigger in the motor, much better platform. I've wrenched on a 5.300 motor. quite a bit and I just could never understand why the marine world is so far behind. You basically end up with a crankshaft that looks like a crank out of a diesel, plenty of room for 1"plus lifters, big bore, intake ports without pushrods interference and the list goes on. The only thing left is to get rid of the pushrods and then you'll really have a killer motor.
