Default 454 flat pistons what alum head chamber volumes available?

seems like you can go all the way to 11-1 CR with a flat pistoned small block with aftermarket heads. but chamber volumes to get over 9 without domed pistons in a 454 are scarce. does anybody use the vortec 7400 100cc chamber with a large oval or rect intake port in their heads? i am sure there would be a market for a head like this.

With some major angle milling you can get a conventional aluminum head under 100cc's but it will affect your exhaust location...

anybody with any results from l29 vortec heads? apparently the only way to get 100 cc chambers without going back to 40 year old chamber design. i hear they are junk and i hear 440hp 500tq dyno with very little port work. of course just cuz you read it on the internet doesn't mean it is true. i believe that was Abraham Lincoln's quote.

I think Raylar is the one to talk to about the Vortec heads...

the reason you don't see much in the small chamber B/B head is the fact they went that way with the big chief style heads to get lots of compression with lighter pistons...I have heard of some playing with vortec heads, and seem to work well in high torque apps, but lacking in higher H/P setups...not to say it can't be done but ???

the big advantage with the flat top or inverted dome piston is no dome to screw up the flame travel in the combustion chaimber.

A small dome will take up a few cc's and not really screw with the flame enough to matter

i agree but with a conventional head it takes a large dome to get that 13-15 to 1 for the big power.
