Default Which Oil pan to use?

I have a Merc 420. The oil pan is rusty and crappy looking. The drain plug is also right against the flexplate making it hard to reach. I would like to replace it while the motor is out. I know the pickup must match. Can I just run any pan from Summit?

that would not be my first choice,i would think you might find a good used merc 8 qt pan in the swap shop,if not look into a gm heavy duty truck pan.is your engine mark4 or gen5-6?

Mine is mark 4. It has a truck pan on it currently. This pan appears to be an aftermarket copy of what I have.

I have bought two from summit.i don't remember the part#,s.one was a canton pan.it is there econo pan with rear sump.8qt.i think it cost around 280.00 with pick-up.the other one I bought was a hambuger econo-pan too.the cost on that was cheaper,,,,,,and guess what.?you get what you pay for and I would not recommend this pan to no body.it leaked from day one .who drills holes in a pan to through bolt the windage tray?maybe I am missing something here but I could never stop the oil leaks until I removed the pan and welded the bolts on both sides.what a pain in the azz.I have never seen a windage tray mounted like that.

depending on your motor mounts,,you should be able to use this style pan.I'll look at chevy performance for the 8qt pan from them.I know it was about 125 bucks.but this is a nice pan.
