Default Full overhaul on 36 daytona...Ilmor, Teague, etc

End of summer I bought a 2008 Eliminator Coupe Daytona 36'. Twin Ilmor 710's, Teague platinum drives on imco raise boxes.

I pulled both motors and drives myself.

ILMOR:
What can you say.......Ilmor rocks. Communication is fast and easy. Full picture tear down of the motors and detailed estimate on rebuilds.
Should have the motors back by February.

Teague:
Shipped them both uppers told them to make them like new. They want me to purchase one new upper and other is rebuild-able. They are a little lazy on communication but I figure they are very busy. I have full faith in them though.

Hering Props:
Shipped them one set of props. Used them before.....good communication and reasonable price for what I consider great work.

Wilson Custom Marine:
I was going to send them my lowers for profiling but thought I would test him with a set a props first. No communication since before Thanksgiving and no returned calls or text. Sending call tags to have these props picked up.

Just my experience with these company's. This is my second Ilmor powered cat and my 5th cat over all.

Pumped about this project though! Boat is going to be like new...I've even waxed the bilge floor.

Spending more than $50K but less than $100K on all these upgrades.

CLA- Sounds like you are a man w/ the plan & made sure you executed it in a timely fashion so as to be able to enjoy the investment you are making.
I'm sure you are looking forward to the finished product.

I have had business dealings w/ the very same companies at different times over the years & my 3 previous boats.

As most know I am a BIG ILMOR fan as well having owned 2 cats w/ their power. Always a great experience, very buttoned up & professional group.

Overall my experiences were positive w/ each vendor you mentioned but w/ Teague & Wilson I actually received their support via ILMOR even though I may have had direct contact throughout the process. I believe this resulted in a positive experience for me b/c ILMOR is 1st class & placed their expectations of themselves upon the 3rd parties so as not to disappoint me or tarnish their own reputation.

Herring's Ben Robertson Jr & Jeff Johnston both provided me w/ excellent sales & service. Unfortunately for me neither are there currently.

Good luck & keep us posted.

Don't forget the Before, During & After pics!

Nascat I would like to think I have a plan but mostly I just have an addiction for motorsports......lol

I hope to be prop testing by March and ready to run hard by ticfaw.

It sucks Jeff left Hering because he always did my father and me right on props. Hopefully their work is still just as top notch.

Update:

Got my uppers back from teague. Everything looks PERFECT! Packaged perfect, looks perfect, and they sent all my old parts. (Empty platinum housing upper, both sets of gears, and all internal parts).

I've got pics but don't have a way to post them. Super happy with using teague!👍

CLA,

Just curious, how many hours on the Ilmors you are having rebuilt? I thought those motors were bullet proof for a LOT of hours. How extensive are the rebuilds?

I got 450 hours out my last ilmor powered boat. I rebuilt both of these in the new to me boat so I know what I have. Rebuilds are extensive, basically new everything.

Smart Move!
Makes sense to knock this type of work out during the off season so it's all behind you & you can enjoy your recently renovated & freshened up boat.

Would Ilmor get the engines and then tell you if they didn't need an extensive rebuild? or you told them do them so there are no surprises. When you say you got 450 hrs, before they needed a rebuild or before you sold it?

I'm sure ilmor would do what ever you want but I want new motors.

I sold the other boat it's still running strong.
