Hi,
i own a 496 Ho from 2003.
One Piston have a damage and the hohle have a few scrates.
I will put the bock 030 oversize and will intall new Pistons.
My question whats the best pistons for the 496 Ho.
In the Mercury parts catalog there are 2 diffrent pistons ( standart and floating disign )
whats the diffrent beetween that pistons and can i install the Floating pistons in a 2003 block ?
Part No for the standart 030 oversize ist 735-881596 and the Floating design is 735-881596002
Thanks for your help.

Ignore the cast pistons and put forged pistons in it while apart. If you are this deep in might as well upgrade the rods while you are there. The quickest bet is to give Larry at Raylar a call and have him hook you up with everything you need.

I agree. Raylar Engineering is who I would call. What are the circumstances behind the piston failure? Stock or modified 496?
From what I have read, 01-03 had pressed wrist pin setup and 04-10 had the floating wrist pins.

Hi,
thanks.
The engine have the pressed wrist pins.
The engine is blown because i had bad fuel. So it comes to detonation in the cylider.
Can i put the newer Pistons with the Floating pins in a older engine with the pressed pins?
Thanks

Hello Christian
Looks like some work this winter on your engine!!
But where did you get Bad Gas ,buy the way, what is bad gas??Normally the Detosensor turn down the power if detonation in motor!?
But not shure is this older version work like this.
Maybe also better to make new bearings on the crankshaft and piston rods when new pistons in the engine!!
