Hey guys it's been a while since I have posted anything. I just had a question. While my motor is out I need to do the gimble ring. Should I go with the stock aluminum or should I try and get a stainless one? I was told by a mechanic it was horribly worn. I don't know if i should bring it to a mechanic to have it changed or is it easy enough to do? Do you need any special tools to do it?

You don't need to take off the inner transom plate. From the engine compartment you need to loosen the bolt that tightens the steering arm onto the steering pin. The rest (hinge pins, lower pin) is done from outside the boat. If the steering arm has any play on the steering pin, it will need to be replaced too.

I was just curious about taking the inner transom plate off so I don't have to put a hole and a plate on the outer plate to get the gimble ring out. Pismo, I heard there was some fit problems and I know for some of them you need external steering.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how the hole was cut in the transom. On my Formula you couldn't access the nut because there was wood in the way. At the factory they must pre assemble the outside stuff then mate inner to the outer and bolt it up because there was now way they tightened it once it was in place.
